Early Morning Light
It was a nut crackery morning…
the trees wore
Royal red skirts,
as they swayed their trunks
and waved their branches,
they parted for me
and the cobalt sparkling sky shone through…
The tambourines
and cymbals crescendoed
while the sky draped itself in
its light blue coat
welcoming
the
new
day!
My painting above is called Ladybug by the Lake. It’s a very small painting that I began while I was plein air watercolor sketching in Peninsula State Park, in Door County Wisconsin. I was looking for a painting to place with this poem and selected this painting as the sky has some of the cobalt blue that I saw and pictured in my mind, this last week on the morning that I wrote this poem. Although the poem itself has inspired a new painting, and hopefully the new painting and this poem will meet up one day…
Ladybug by the Lake is included in a postcard booklet from my summer’s watercolor exhibit: Narratives of Nature. The postcard booklet is available in my online etsy shop: MichelleKoganFineArt.etsy.com It’s also available until Dec. 22nd at the Evanston Art Center’s Winter Arts and Crafts EXPO.
