It may finally be spring and almost summer like in Chicago…
This time of year is a particular favorite of mine for I am out teaching Plein Air Classes. Specifics on all my classes are listed below.

The talk is from my exhibit that I had last summer at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, and is being presented as part of the Global Alliance of Artists Environment XChange.

Plein Air Watercolor Class with artist Michelle Kogan
Open to Adults and Teens age 13+
Session 1 May 31st, June 7th & 14th Saturdays 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.Session 2 July 12th, 19th, & 26th Saturdays 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Rate $140 per class
Absorb yourself in a Plein Air Watercolor Painting Workshop amongst summer
perennials and prairie grasses in the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum’s native prairie.

Children’s Picture Book Illustration Class ID: 0153
Start Date: Tuesday, June 10, Ten week Class 9:30 am –12:30 pm
Regular Rate: $ 280 Discounted Resident Rate: $ 270
Choose a classic children’s picture book or bring in your own picture book story and learn about making a picture book dummy. In class we’ll start with thumbnail layouts and then use a scanner and computers to create the book dummies. Bring to 1st class: 9 x 12 inch or larger sketchbook and tracing paper pad, kneaded eraser, 3 staedtler mars #3b drawing pencils, pencil sharpener and reference materials for your picture book drawings. Skill Level All Levels Ages 18+

Sketching at the Art Institute & Lincoln Park Conservatory 2–Five week Classes

9:30 am – 12:30 pm & when at the Art Institute: 10:30 am – 1:30 pm
Regular Member Rate: $ 140 Discounted Resident Rate: $ 135
Grab your sketch pad and we’ll draw in the galleries of the Art Institute of Chicago and paint in the Lincoln Park Conservatory Green houses. We may then head back to the Evanston Art Center and spend some sessions turning these sketches into finished drawings/painting. All levels are welcome. Directions of where to meet for the first class will be emailed to you. For the field trip sketching bring:  9 x 12 inch or smaller sketch pad, 3-4 #3B staedtler mars drawing pencils and kneaded eraser.

With the Art Center grounds as inspiration, students spend the mornings as did the French impressionists, painting and drawing outside. Explore a rich array of media from charcoal and watercolor to pen & ink and acrylic. Dress for all kinds of weather – stormy skies and rainbows notwithstanding.
