Rock’n round the Hanukkah table
By Michelle Kogan © 2015
Rock’n round the Hanukkah table
with the Holiday lights aglow.
Moshe’s mouths munch’n mama’s latkes
faster than she can pass ‘em round.
Old Uncle Sam’s spinn’n the dreidel,
‘fore the dinner plates even cleared,
Pinch’n his pennies for the very
next years, dynamic dreidel game.
Moshe dashes for the last Latke,
while mama’s eyes roll all around.
She’s hoping his tummy hangs on through
desert, dreidels, and a bit more….
The candles are swaying to and fro,
sending warm feelings all around.
Hanukkah cookies, candy, gelt, and
treats fill our eyes with great delight.
Mama eyes Moshe so does Papa,
but by now it’s a bit too late.
His eyes are heavy and his tummy
aches, so Sis helps him take a break…
Lie’n on the couch, wished he’d eaten
less, but he knows he’ll have to wait.
Uncle Sam, Sis, and friend Susie, all
hoot’n over the dreidel game.
Moshe tears up but Max’s wet tongue,
tickles and lifts his tummy ache
Eyes all dry with Max at his side, they
wander by the delicious treats…
But turn away with a concealed smile
and join the daring dreidel game.
Uncle Sam offers Moshe his lap,
with a smile as big as the sky.
They all play till the candles burn low,
and the pennies start piling high.
Goodnights begin but Moshe slips in
a special Hanukkah surprise…
A glittering menorah by yours
truly, for each one to display!
