Susanna Leonard Hill is once again hosting her Annual halloweensie Writing Contest, it’s the 6th this year. For the story we had to include these three words: moon, ghost, and spider. Our stories also have to appeal to kids and be 100 words or less. Read all the stories by visiting her wonderful blog at Susanna Leonard Hill. My story this year is in memory of my dad who passed away last week, and is in my daily thoughts.
Trudy’s Halloween Dream
Michelle Kogan © 2016
Trudy wouldn’t trick-or-treat because–Nana passed away.
“I won’t go without you!” said Trudy.
Trudy tried feeling better. She read their books, dressed in Nana’s Ghost costume, and sang their songs. Nothing helped.
But–Halloween eve a full moon rose . . .
“Truuuudy,” called a voice while Trudy dreamed.
“Nana?” whispered Trudy.
“Take me with you.”
“Nana, I miss your hugs.”
“When you get a hug, it’s me!”
Trudy woke–on Halloween . . .
“I’m going!” said Trudy. “As Nana’s–spider, she loved spiders!”
“Ta Da!”
“It’s perfect!” said her mom, hugging her.
A Nana hug! thought Trudy.
Sweet and spooky! Good luck!
Hi Gabi, thanks for stopping by and commenting!
Aw! Poor Trudy missing her Nana. What a sweet way for her to honor Nana’s memory and get her Nana hug. I’m so sorry about your Dad, but hope your memories of him will comfort you the way Trudy’s memory of Nana helped her. Thanks so much for joining in Halloweensie even at this difficult time ❤
Thanks for stopping by Susanna! I’ve been writing a series with this character Trudy, and all the memories seemed to fit snugly together in this story <3.
How lovely, Michelle! Great illustration…and the story is tender sweet…I’m so glad Trudy reconnected with her beloved grandmother. 😉
Thanks for stopping by, and for your comments Vivian!
