Happy Poetry Friday! I’ve been preparing for the #Women’s March Chicago– March to the Polls, that’s happening this Saturday. I’m sharing my poster, a poem and some music all in the spirit to move people to VOTE this November. My poster is also serving as my #Inktober drawing for 10-11-2018.
VOTE– SAVE DEMOCRACY
Our suffragette sisters Marched long ago,
rally once again join in with gusto.
We’ll March, and March open-mindedly blue,
for reproductive rights, for all, and you.
We’ll March for freedom, with words our weapons,
for immigration and all that’s threatened–
We’ll March with respect and dignity too,
For individualism to break through–
We’ll March in villages, towns, and cities,
Raising our voice above mediocrities–
Our USA’s divided and bleeding
Save Democracy–vote–begin healing

I was looking for songs for Women’s democracy and rights. I came up with one of my favorites, Aretha Franklin’s, Respect, and also MILCK – Quiet Hope these get you in the mood for some Marching…
Laura Purdie Salas at her blog Writing the World for Kids is hosting this weeks Poetry Friday Roundup. She’s sharing a lovely meditative poem called Sacred Land, about Minnesota and its Boundary Waters. It’s in the New poetry anthology The Poetry of the US, by J. Patrick Lewis. Be sure and stop by for Laura’s poem and many more. Thanks for hosting Laura!
Wonderful post, Michelle. What a rousing poem and cool poster! I wasn’t familiar with “Quiet” and enjoyed it along with the one and only Aretha. 🙂

Thank you, Michelle, for the poem, the art, and the inspiration. Even though near rhyme is not usually my thing, your final stanza delivers such impact. Healing is sure something our country needs. Hope the march was fantastic!
Thanks Laura, yes the March was invigorating and fantastic too!
Huzzah! I hope your march was a fabulous success!
Thanks Mary Lee, it was all that and more–hope it shows up in the polls!
