#Poetry Friday–”I am the sound of…” & Summer Greeting Cards

Yellow and Pinkess flowers in Vase-6-28-2019

Happy Poetry Friday!

I’m sharing a poem that I created from a clunker line that Linda Mitchell made available at her blog  A Word Edgewise, on her Poetry Friday Post last week. Many thanks Linda–I’ve had a busy week and have a handful of poems in-progress, but this one lifted up to the top. The line Linda made available was: I am the sound of.

I AM THE SOUND OF…

I am the sound of flowers
calling inner beauty…
I am the sound of pinkness
calling inner emotions…
I am the sound of heartstrings
calling inner passions…
I am the sound of wonder
calling always ready, …
I am the sound of sighing
calling come and ponder…

  1. I like the way you’ve linked sound to sight…especially the sound of pinkness! And those fireflies are beautiful–they’ve just started flashing this week at our house.

  2. Linda Mitchell says:

Michelle, I wish you could hear my squeal on this side of the screen. Perfect! Just beautiful. I’m so glad you gave those clunker words new life. They are shiny and pretty now. I love the arc of this poem in such a short space. The last line grounds it perfectly.

  3. I love your poem! Especially the line, “I am the sound of heartstrings calling inner passions . . . “

  4. margaretsmn says:

I like what you did with the line. I need to go back and find a line from Linda. Your firefly card is my favorite!

  5. How much do I love the sound of pinkness??! THAT is poetry. xo

  6. cweichel says:

Just wow! I love the repetition in this. I love how you have connected image to sound. It hints of synesthesia, but offers up more.

  7. cvarsalona says:

Michelle, I always walk away smiling after reading your post and indulge myself in your gorgeous drawings. The sounds and feel of summer are found within this page tonight.

  8. Tabatha says:

I like the sound of sighing… ah!! Charming birthday cards, Michelle.

  9. maryleehahn says:

I love that passion, wonder, and ponder are all living in the same poem! And those cards!! The fireflies are perfect — it’s been so wet here that it’s a banner year for them. Every night is magic come to life.

  10. haitiruth says:

Nice! My favorite card is the one with the fireflies. Ruth, thereisnosuchthingasagodforsakentown.blogspot.com

  13. Kay Mcgriff says:

Linda’s clunker sings in your poem! I love what you’ve done with her line. I love the bouquet of dandelions!

  14. Michelle Heidenrich Barnes says:

I agree with Kay, Michelle. You made the sound of a “clunker” into music! I especially like “I am the sound of wonder/calling always ready.” (Love those fireflies, too!)
